of treated effluent and untreated, the entire urban area
from various neighborhoods, presented amounts of
Acenaphthene e Acenaphthyle above standards TEL and
significantly higher values compared to standards PEL for
Fluoranthene, Phenantrene, Anthracene, Fluoranthene,
Pyrene, Benzo(a)anthracene, Crysene, Benzo(a)pyrene
and Dibenzo(a.h)anthracene. It was possibly observed
that the point area 06 showed favorable characteristics
in the sediment to have greater adsorption of PAHs arising
from charge capture rainwater from the city spreading the
nearby contaminants causing the accumulation of PAHs in
different studied points. PAHs levels found in points 06 and
07 are much higher than those found in areas considered
as contaminated Yellon River , China 464 – 2.621 µ
(22) and Patos Lagoon, Estuary, RS, Brazil 37.7–11.780
(25) area with intense navigation (Superport of Rio
Grande city) and large industrial facilities, including oil
The PAHs concentrations in Points 04, 05, 06 e 07, showed
results above the standard TEL and PEL established in
CONAMA 344/2004 and Canadian Council of Ministers of
the Environment each of whom rate the quality of
the sediment at these points as unfit for dredging and
as places that can cause adverse effects to aquatic
In Point 05 the collaboration of waste derived fuels vessels
can lead to reducing rates BaA / (BaA + Chry).
It is possible to sort the sources of contaminants as
petrogenic or pyrolytic relating the PAHs concentrations
non-alkylated found in sediments in the sediment (19).
Analyzing the results of LMW / HMW found in Table 5,
there is presence of PAHs petrogenic origin in Point 10
and the others of pyrolytic origin. It is important to relate
the information found with the fact of point location; the
) varies between 0.991-0.999. The quality parameters,
such as the detection limits (LOD) and quantification
limits (LOQ), were found in the range of 0.1-1.4 µ
and 0.3 to 1.7 µ
, respectively. The precision of the
chromatographic method were found RSD in the range
0.5- 1.1%.
The average recoveries of these deuterated surrogates
in the strata sediments were 73.9 % ± 10.2 %, 98.7 % ± 12.9
% e 86.9 % ± 14.4 % for Phenanthrene -D10, Chrysene
-D12 e D12- Perylene, respectively. These values can
be considered as suitable for extracting soxleth and
according to the literature, these recoveries are
representative of other extraction techniques (21,22).
The point 07 shows considerable amount of HAs but does
not have features for accumulation. The TOM values are
biogenic sources introduced by terrestrial material for
the basin, and values above 10% are characterized as
sediment of organic origin.
We can consider how to download the PAH
concentrations in sediment when the sum is 0-100 ug
; moderate between 100 and 1000
; High
between 1000 and 5000 and very high, above that
for summation (23). In Table 5 the concentration found
in each point of priority PAHs according to EPA, point 06
have concentrations above 5000 discharge point
entry of rainwater and the sediment characteristics and
point 07 due to the proximity of the site - these two points
are considered at very high concentrations, and points 01
and 02 had low concentrations of PAHs due to dilution of
the charge along the channel and little urban runoff input.
Comparing the values found with legal standards for the
quality of the sediment points studied, one can observe
