On September 27th, Kemira is celebrating the inauguration of the San Giorgio site in Italy, which has been upgraded with state-of-the-art technology allowing for further business expansion in the south EMEA markets. The site produces polymers for different customer applications in pulp & paper, oil & gas, mining and water treatment.
Festivities include opening remarks by the Finnish Ambassador to Italy Mr. Janne Taalas and President and CEO of Kemira, Mr. Jari Rosendal.
“We acquired 3F Chimica in October 2013, including the San Giorgio site. We felt there was a strong strategic fit both with regard to our polymer business expansion as well as through raw material, logistics and fixed cost savings. Since the acquisition, we have invested EUR 30 million in San Giorgio, more than doubling the site’s production capacity. It is now one of the largest dry and emulsion polymer sites in Europe,” says Jari Rosendal, President and CEO.
Thanks to new constructions, significant improvements in storage, office space as well as loading and parking facilities have been introduced.
“We have nearly doubled the number of employees at the site to 122 and are running it at full capacity. With our new energy-efficient bio-acrylamide process, we are able to reduce our environmental impact and further improve our high standard workplace safety. What’s more, we are self-sufficient in some of Kemira’s key raw material processes,” says Enzo Omboni, Managing Director of Kemira Italy.
