Abstract

More than 10 years have passed since ultravioletabsorbing chemicals (commonly known as UVfilters), designed to attenuate the negative effects fromdirect exposure to sunlight irradiation, have beendetected in the environment. Since then, a great dealof effort has been devoted to the provision ofappropriate analytical methods that enable theirdetermination in a wide variety of environmentalmatrices. In this review, an effort is being made toprovide a comprehensive summary of the analyticalresearch endeavours over the past decade, highlightingthe achievements accomplished and elucidating therequirements for future research on the field of UV filterdetermination in the environment.
