Lithium and boron – two elements of success in high-performance fine chemicals production

Abstract

This article outlines a unique technology for theeconomic large-scale manufacturing of fine chemicals includinglithium intermediates. The substitution of traditional organolithiumsby lithium metal provides production scale access to complexand tricky boronic acids and aldehydes as well as carboxylicacids in excellent purities. Further, a novel, cryogenic and easilyscalable approach to highly-substituted, formerly difficult tomake, trifluoromethyl-substituted pyridines is discussed.
