Abstract

A short overview of innovative trends in cosmetics sector is presented, with focus on Asian tendencies, innovative packaging and digital era that arrives in beauty sector.


INTRODUCTION

Definitely, innovative systems, products and forms involve various fabrication techniques that can be retrieved either in cosmetic, food, pharmacy or in fine chemical industries. All researchers and developers can really be associated whatever their fields, and this interdisciplinary approach directly benefits to consumers (1).

COSMETICS, A BRIEF ECONOMIC OVERVIEW

The worldwide cosmetic market, estimated in 2016 at €205 billion* with growth of +4% (2). It is a relatively stable market with AAGR at around 3.8% for the past 10 years (excepted 2009). Beauty sector presents a global repartition with a good health for 2015 (growth similar to 2014) (Figure 1) (3, 4). 

In 2016, the European cosmetic market in is estimated at €77 billion; in 2014 it was € 72.5 billion (Germany €13.01 bn, France: €10.58 bn, UK: €10.40 bn, Italy: €9.39 bn, Spain: €6.35 bn) with flagship categories that remain skin care and hygiene products (25.4% each); hair products (20.6%); fragrances (15%) and make-up (13.4%) (4).
