Overview of a new European Parliament and Council regulation concerning the placing of plant protection products on the market

Abstract

A new regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009)concerning the placing on the market of plant protectionproducts has been recently published. This regulationreplaces Council Directive 91/414/EEC.
Many of the provisions of the new regulation are broadlysimilar to those in the Directive. However importantchanges include the introduction of hazard based cut-offcriteria, the establishment of candidates for substitution andcomparative assessment; together with zonal authorisationand mutual recognition for plant protection products.
