Performance enhancement of organic UV-filters through nanoencapsulation

Abstract

Sunlight exposure, in particular UV-rays,causes significant physiological damage to human hairlike degradation of melanins and weakening of the hairfibres. This results in reduced fibre strength, rough surface,split ends, loss of shine and colour change. Positivelycharged nanocapsules, highly loaded with organicUV-filters, adhere to the hair surface and form a resistant,robust film protecting it against those photochemicalinfluences. Compared to non-encapsulated UV-filtersadhesion to the hair, washing resistance, protection fromradicals and colour persistence are significantly improved.
