Omya – Stepping forward with natural versatility

HPC Today

Omya, a leading global producer of calcium carbonates, will present solutions that are both highly efficient and eco-friendly at this year’s SEPAWA. As such, the company will introduce mastered calcium carbonate particles suitable for multifunctional decorative cosmetics and toothpaste applications alongside minerals with adjustable abrasivity for household surface cleaners. The offering will be completed by a distribution portfolio comprising a broad spectrum of cleaning and caring substances, enabling the creation of all-round applications.

Omyaskin® recrystallized mineral particles are perfect for decorative cosmetics. Thanks to patented Omya technology, the particles offer greater porosity and a larger surface area than conventional calcium carbonate. Their modified structure delivers high efficiency in terms of coverage, sebum absorption and skin feel, while simultaneously easing the production process. Omyaskin® is suitable for a variety of different target applications, including foundations, compact powders, lipsticks and BB/CC/DD creams. An ingredient specially designed for oral care applications is Omyadent®. Consisting of a core of calcium carbonate surrounded by a shell of hydroxyapatite (HAP), Omyadent® provides excellent remineralizing properties and repairs microscopic defects in tooth enamel. With regular use, teeth gain a smoother and whiter surface. Moreover, Omyadent® acts as a high efficiency carrier for ingredients such as flavors and antimicrobials.

Several further examples from the Switzerland-based expert will illustrate the multiple ways in which mineral ingredients can create a new generation of all-round end products. For the home care segment, there are surface cleaners based on marble, dolomite or limestone. Omyadol® and Omyacarb® minerals deliver outstanding absorption properties, adjustable abrasivity and good polishing ability – and they are not harmful to ecosystems once back in the environment. The cost-efficient, brilliant white and natural calcium carbonate particles not only meet the highest expectations in terms of efficiency and sustainability, but can also enhance the look and feel of finished products.

All minerals can be combined with ingredients from the company’s huge distribution portfolio. For detergents and cleaners, Omya offers ingredients such as surfactants, bleaching activators, disinfecting or emulsifying agents and many more. For the personal care industry, meanwhile, the portfolio includes natural color pigments, sweeteners, preservatives, antioxidants and other functional ingredients. Its long-standing expertise and collaboration with certified producers means that the company is able to provide sustainable supply for its customers.

Visitors to SEPAWA should not miss the Omya presentation on Friday 25th October. At 12:15 p.m. in room 3, Omya R&D Services Senior Scientist Tobias Keller will present a deeper insight into the multifunctional advantages of natural minerals by illustrating options for easy handling of automatic dishwashing actives with a novel magnesium-carrier.
