SGS is proud to announce the opening of a state-of-the-art cosmetics testing facility in Hangzhou to meet the growing demand for cosmetics product claim substantiation in China.

With over 500 m2 of space, the Hangzhou site offers an impressive array of testing instruments and imaging systems to help manufacturers support their product claims.

The updated ‘Guideline for Cosmetic Efficacy Claim Evaluation’ came into effect on May 1, 2021, and requires all cosmetics manufacturers to prove their products’ efficacy, for both ‘general’ or ‘special’ products.

Pierre-Yves Dupont, Global Vice President of SGS, said: “We know that product claim substantiation is never easy, especially when dealing with new regulations. To complement our existing state-of-the art clinical testing facilities in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xiamen, we have invested heavily to equip the Hangzhou facility with the latest, most cutting-edge technologies, so we can help our customers back up their product claims with 100% accurate data.”

The Hangzhou site offers a wide range of efficacy tests to validate skin moisturization/repair, skin tone evenness, skin brilliance, anti-wrinkle, firming, oil control, anti-acne, anti-redness, sensitive skin and dermatologist-tested claims, as well as patch testing, safety-in-use tests, and makeup evaluation.

China’s new Cosmetic Supervision and Administration Regulation has led to an increase in demand for cosmetics product testing. The Hangzhou site is uniquely positioned to meet the growing needs of manufacturers hoping to introduce their cosmetics to the Chinese market.

Clients in the area and abroad will now be able to get their products tested faster than before and comply with the government’s new requirements.
