Consultant in surfactants
Dr. G. Bognolo was born in North Italy in 1945. He studied theoretical chemistry at the University of Trieste (Italy). He has spent his professional careers in the field of the surface and interfacial active agents and specialty chemicals, working first in the European R&D department of the Procter & Gamble Company (Brussels) and later in various companies of the Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) Group (Brussels), where he has contributed to the technical and market development of innovative classes of specialty and effect chemicals.
Between 1991 and 1997 he has lead the ICI Industrial Surfactants business in Europe before moving to the position of Innovation Director of the Uniqema Company (ICI Group) and of global Product Manager of the Uniqema interfacial active agents and ethoxylated specialty intermediates.
Since 2002 he is the Managing Director of WSA Associates, a Brussels based independent technology development consulting firm active internationally in the field of effect and specialty chemicals and surface active agents.
Dr. G. Bognolo has produced many publications dealing with the technology, marketing and innovation processes in the field of specialty chemicals, including chapters in reference books. Between 2006 and 2013 he was the General Secretary of the Confederation of the European Senior Experts Services (CESES). He is a Director in the European Institute for Industrial Leadership (EIIL), and a member of the Editorial Board of Chimica Oggi/ Chemistry Today. He collaborated with the University of Padova (Italy) and of Pretoria (South Africa) and advices European and overseas companies on matters of technology, strategy and business development. From 2004 to 2008 he was a member of the Technology Advisory Board of Oxiteno (Brazil). Between 2006 and 2013 he collaborated with the Foreign Experts Bureau of the Zhejiang province in the People Republic of China for the identification and exchange of senior experts in various industry segments. On several occasions he provided consultancy services to the Zhejiang Huangma Chemical Industry group of Shaoxing, China.
Dr. Bognolo also holds a diploma in Business Administration from the Solvay Business School (Brussels).
Other than in the Italian mother tongue Dr. Bognolo is fluent in English, French, has good command of German and basic knowledge of Dutch.
He is married and has two children and four grandchildren.
In his free time he keeps busy playing bridge, restoring ancient oil paintings and studying the political and socio-economic structures of European middle age states. He loves animal and at one point in time enjoyed the company of four collies, two cats, two horses and 8 million bees (with home production of honey that was once offered to the Prince of Wales).
