Omya, expert in natural minerals and complementary ingredients, will use in-Cosmetics Global to highlight its sustainable, waterless and eco-friendly solutions. Its applications for skin, oral and hair care and make-up not only reduce water use during production, but also packaging and transportation costs. Furthermore, they promise a long shelf live without the use of harsh preservatives. Finished products offer multisensory experiences for consumers, too, while being highly efficacious. The showcased portfolio will be complemented by the company’s mineral ingredients for innovative skin and oral care solutions, as well as natural colors for decorative formulations.

Today, 2.3 billion people live in water-stressed countries, which is a major consideration in the sustainability profile of finished products. However, water is an effective and inexpensive solvent, and can account for up to 90% of a formulation. Therefore, creating water-free or even water-reduced personal and oral care products can be technically challenging, particularly because they should still be natural and effective. Following the solid cosmetics trend, Omya R&D team has developed innovative anhydrous formulations with advanced minerals such as Omyaskin® and Omyadent® particles. The resulting prototypes are easy to disperse and apply for an innovative sensorial experience. Some of these prototypes will be featured at in-Cosmetics 2023, from toothtabs and toothpowders for remineralization and desensitization, to charcoal-containing, detox waterless masks and solid make-up removers.

Also on show will be Cosmospheres®, a visually appealing, natural ingredient solution that concentrates actives and ensures their release during application. Suitable for all kinds of personal care formulations, the cellulosic beads may keep liquid or powdered actives contained in colorful spheres suspended in all sorts of water containing products. Available in several different colors, the swollen Cosmospheres® maintain their spherical shape throughout the shelf life of the product. Gentle friction during application then allows the spheres to break and release their content, while leaving no residue. The Charcol Cosmospheres® toothpaste will be on display at in-Cosmetics, while many other formulations can be discussed with Omya experts.

For make-up and color cosmetics, Omya offers holistic combinations of the company-own and COSMOS certified Omyacare® grades, and natural colorants from the distribution portfolio. The high-purity minerals are color-enhancing and an ideal match for natural colorants such as the trendy color dispersible reds out of radish, sweet potato or elderberry. A sensory hub at the booth will provide the opportunity to view and feel prototypes: All applications contain natural ingredients and have moisturising and protective properties, spread evenly and promise optimal skin feel.

Stefan Lander, Vice President Consumer Goods, Group Sales & Marketing at Omya, states: “For more than 130 years, Omya has been closely connected to natural, high-quality raw materials. Therefore, we are committed to treating the environment sustainably to ensure innovations that promise to protect the needs of current and future generations. We feel proud to contribute to natural, renewable and pioneering solutions that respect nature, biodiversity and the importance of human health.”
