The Janssen Senior Scientist position in our Peptide Center of Excellence is aimed to support the development of innovative new peptide drugs in a cross functional environment. In close collaboration with our external partners we design new concepts for cost efficient and reliable synthesis of challenging peptides, peptide conjugates and peptide mimetics that are enable new breakthrough therapies.   

The Peptide Development Group is part of API Small Molecule Development within Janssen and is located in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.  Our R&D activities span the creation of new synthetic processes for the supply of New Chemical Entities to the design of commercial manufacturing routes for the peptide-based drugs in our development portfolio. Thus, new ways of production are explored to deliver the most robust and scalable process for clinical and commercial supply. Therefore, the generation of a detailed process knowledge is essential to guarantee successful registration of new medicines.

Due to the recent growth of our development pipeline and expansion of our in-house peptide group, we are currently looking for highly-motivated and experienced scientists with a deep understanding of synthetic peptide chemistry in solution and on solid support, excellent experimental and communication skills, and the willingness to work with different nationalities and cultures within and outside of Janssen.

 

Job offer and responsibility:

You will become part of a highly motivated and diverse peptide team in an international setting and will contribute in many different ways to advance research and development of new synthetic processes for the reliable, economical and environmentally friendly production of unique peptides.

We offer state-of-the-art development labs, infrastructure and equipment such as automated peptide synthesizers and preparative HPLC systems, as well as open access UPLC, HPLC, LC/MS and NMR equipment.

You will oversee, guide and direct the work of lab technicians while working hands-on yourself in important development programs, intended to cover unmet medical need for patients worldwide.

You will collaborate globally with functional experts for structure determination, crystallization, process safety, preparative separation technique, process engineering, and analytics.

An important part of your work will be the collaboration and knowledge transfer with CROs, CDMOs and CMOs as well as with our alliance partners worldwide. Good organization and project management skills together with great talent in communication and social interactions will open the door for great achievements and success.

This position is located in Schaffhausen and requires frequent trips to our head quarter in Belgium and face-to-face visits with our partners.

 

Minimum requirements

  • D. or MS/BS in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy or related fields with a minimum of 5 years (MS/BS 10 years) of industrial or pharmaceutical development experience.
  • Practical hands-on experience in synthesis and analysis of peptides.
  • Experienced in the use of solid phase synthesizers and prep. HPLC purification.
  • Keen analytical and structured mind combined with strong problem-solving skills.
  • ability to think strategically and conceptually
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and social skills.
  • Ability to influence others and building consensus.
  • Experience in leading, coaching and managing people.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestic and internationally.
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team.
  • Proficient in English basic knowledge in German is welcome
