INTRODUCTION

REACH Regulation: A ten years review, is a short article based on the lessons learned (and also lessons to be learned) after the implementation of REACH across EU.

In this article you will find how implementing the most complex chemical regulation in the World had not been easy to do and how other legal regulations worldwide are being based on it.

Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) was published in the Official Journal of the EU on 30 December 2006 (OJ L 396, pp 1-849) (1) and came into force on 1st June 2007.

According to Article 1 (aim and scope) point 1 the purpose of the Regulation is β€œto ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment, ….”. This way REACH addresses the production (manufacture), importation and use of all chemicals substances present in the EU territories and their possible impacts on both human health and the environment.
