Abstract

In October, Novozymes launched Medley®, a set of 5 ready-made, pre-stabilized enzyme blends for liquid detergents – the first ever blends of enzymes introduced for the broad liquid detergent market. Targeting primarily small and mid-size detergent producers, the Medley solutions are composed with more than 50 years’ experience and can simplify production, free up working capital and save money – all while producing a more efficient detergent.

INTRODUCTION

Producing a detergent is a complex process, and Medley acts as plug and play solutions to simplify this. Each enzyme within a blend targets different substrates. Frequently occurring stains, such as food stains, are composed of a matrix of many different substrates. In order to achieve the complete removal of a specific stain, different enzymes are required to breakdown the different components within each stain. The components within a complex stain are layered – for example; consider a stain resulting from spaghetti carbonara – attempting to tackle the protein component alone and ignoring the starch component is impossible. The starch component and protein component are layered and cover each other, so specific enzymes targeting each component are required to take turns – effectively working together – to ensure complete stain removal. Medley is comprised of enzymes that are optimized to breakdown various compounds in just this manner.
