Abstract

Rapid enzyme optimization has provided new biocatalystsfor the manufacture of chiral amines and alcohols. Wherenatural enzymes often proved inefficient and labile toprocess conditions, engineered transaminases andketoreductases now find widespread use in the commercialmanufacture of chiral intermediates. The maturationof biocatalysis via optimization of natural enzymes forfunction under the non-natural conditions of a chemicalmanufacturing process is exemplified in this article.
