The effect of dairy products on dental caries
Dental caries (tooth decay) are a major public health problem that plagues all countries in the world. Milk anddairy products have been identified as having anticariogenic activity. Due to their high buffering capacity, provided byinorganic salts and proteins, milk products reduce the influence of acids produced by cariogenic bacteria. Their highcontent of calcium and phosphate may aid in remineralization of the tooth enamel. In addition, milk proteins have specificproperties that may be anticariogenic.
