Stay fi t, go green! Release the potential of vegetable protein in sports nutrition


Physically active people – not least in competitive sports – have special nutrition requirements. An optimal strategy must provide them with suffi cient energy, essential nutrients and fl uids. Protein is of course absolutely critical to health in general; but with their additional demands, sports people must have more, and in just the right quantity and quality.
Of the macronutrients consumed in a typical diet, protein supplies the smallest proportion. Protein metabolism is infl uenced by a variety of factors, including age, gender and diet, as well as exercise type, duration and intensity. For instance, if the physically active require an intake of 1.0g/k (body weight)/day, endurance or strength athletes need twice that amount.
