Abstract

Microarrays promise toadvance biology through theparallel screening for many different binding partners. In thefield of DNA microarrays lithographic techniques enables thecombinatorial synthesis in densities of several ten thousandoligonucleotides per cm2. The availability of such high densescreening tools revolutionized the field of genomics. A similardevelopment is expected for the field of proteomics, but washindered in past times by low densities and the lack of anadequate diversity in peptide array production. This articledescribes recent developments in this field with an emphasison methods that have the potency to overcome theobstacles in peptide synthesis and lead to affordable very highdensity peptide arrays.
