Abstract

Whilst it is widely acknowledged that microreactors can be used to generate products in higher yield, purity and selectivity when compared to batch reactors, aperceived disadvantage of the technology is the fact thatonly small quantities of product can be prepared. In thisarticle, recent literature demonstrating industrial uptake ofthe technology within production scenarios is reviewed andit is discussed how to effectively transfer reactionmethodology from a research laboratory into production. Inaddition to the obvious time and cost savings, this is aparticularly attractive feature for industrialists as it has thepotential to enable the use of previously un-scalablereactions for the production of fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
